Intensive Course in Life Crisis and Emergency Psychology

The Institute of Constructivist Psychology of Padova – Italy is organizing an intensive course in "Life Crisis and Emergency Psychology".

Emergency Psychology is well-known as a "disaster-related" theme. But, besides these rare maxi-events, there is a growth in professional interest about "life crisis psychology": acute situations in which the personal system of meanings is suddenly blocked and transformed.

Personal accidents, severe pathologies, critical incidents, social violence, loss and grief: sudden transitions in personal and familiar identities, in which emotions, relationships and representations are deeply involved. The psychological "trauma" is thus defined as a "wound of the meanings", and it’s psychological feedback is a sudden failure of the personal constructs system, unable to provide further viable elaborations.

The course will provide a broad and integrated analysis of "personal and social crises" from a constructivist point-of-view, with a strong professional focus. There will be 15-20 students, the duration will be 16 days and the focus will be on planning activities and applications regarding the main areas in emergency/trauma/crisis psychology.

The first half of the course will centre on the main emergency/risk/trauma psychology issues; the second half will concentrate on the main areas of professional development in the life crisis area: health-related issues; work-related crisis; migration and refugee issues, etc.

Teachers were chosen from high-level professionals and researchers, ranging from the PCP field (D. Winters), Disaster Studies (D. Alexander), Psychotraumatology (R. Fioravanzo), Migration issues (P.Castelletti), etc.

The course will be coordinated by Luca Pezzullo, Ph.D.

When and Where: The course will be held on the weekends between 19 June - 11 July and 11 September - 10 October, in Padova (Italy).

N.B.: The course will be held in Italian.
