Venue

The island of San Servolo is located in the Venetian lagoon, between Venice city center and the Lido. It takes 10 minutes by boat to reach Piazza San Marco, the heart of Venice.
The island overlooks the tranquil waters of the lagoon, and covers an area of 4.82 hectares. A large complex of buildings looks faces Piazza San Marco and there is a large park and surrounding walls which protect the Island from the sea.

The Provincial Authority decided to preserve the original features of this ancient complex and transform it into an effective conference and multicultural centre well connected with the rest of the lagoon city.
Prior to its present use the island was first inhabited in the year 600 and for over a thousand years the island was host to diverse monastic orders: Benedictine, Dominican and Franciscan.
In 1715 the island was practically uninhabited and the Senate of the Republic thus decided to use the ex convent as the seat of their new military hospital, followed by a psychiatric hospital until, in 1978, government legislation closed the institution.

The Study Centre Lodging facility provides 193 rooms on the Island that are comfortably equipped. In addition, the following services are also available on the Island: bar, small general store, cafeteria, restaurant, cash machine, ACTV water-bus ticket sales and Internet access.
